The WB Numbers Report: Brackins Big Month

I remarked in the podcast last night that Craig Brackins is currently in the midst of one of the most productive stretches in the last 15 years of Iowa State basketball.

If you take out the blowout win over SIU-Edwardsville (CB only played 20 minutes attempting just six shots) here is what his numbers look like in the past month.

December 20 Jax State- 28 pts., 17 rebs.
December 23 SD State- 18 pts., 5 rebs.
December 28 Houston- 38 pts., 14 rebs.
December 31 Mercer- 22 pts., 8 rebs.
January 6  Houston Baptist- 22 pts., 16 rebs.
January 10 Texas- 20 pts., 13 rebs.
January 14 Nebraska 21 pts,. 12 rebs.

That averages to 24.1 points and 12.1 rebs. During this stretch he shot a respectable 53 percent (65-124) from the field.

It is a remarkable run, but it's not quite on the same level as the period of time when Marcus Fizer took over the college basketball world.

He had a three week stretch of play from February to March of 2000 that was simply awesome. (Note: none of the records I searched for had rebound totals.)

2-19-2000 Colorado 30 points
2-22-2000 Texas 35 points
2-26-2000 Oklahoma State 29 points
3-1-2000 Texas Tech 35 points
3-4-2000 Baylor 34 points
3-10 2000 Baylor (Big 12 tourney) 38 points

Marcus put up 33.5 points per over a six game stretch. He won two straight Big 12 player of the week awards and shot 63 percent from the floor during the run.Only one other Big 12 player has gone 30 plus in five of six games and that was Michael Beasley last year. (Looking back his numbers are completely absurd.)

So, it's safe to say Brackins isn't quite at that level recently, but the last month has been quite impressive.
